Well, I did not know that!

For a change I thought it might be fun to look at some different facts about cats which you may not know.

  • Cats can produce over 90 different sounds, but we still don’t know why they purr.

  • Most cats are lactose intolerant so no milk please.

  • Cats do not have sweet sensors on their tongue so cannot taste anything sweet.

  • Owning a cat is good for you by lowering cholesterol levels and risk of cardiovascular disease.

  • A cat called Stubbs was elected Mayor of Talkeetna in Alaska in 1997.

  • Cats have both short- and long-term memories so they can (and do) hold a grudge against you.

  • Cats have more bones in their bodies than humans.

  • Cats are very agile but do not always land on their feet when falling.

  • In 1963 a cat was sent into space but returned safe and sound.

  • Not all cats like catnip.

  • Cat noses have a unique print like a fingerprint.

  • Cats can find direct eye contact threatening.

If you travel to the EU and have taken your cat with you, then you have used an EU passport (which got you into the EU).  However, the rules changed a few months ago and you now need to get an Animal Health Certificate here before you travel. See full details at Gov.UK – Taking pets abroad

With the series of heatwaves we have been experiencing this summer I hope you have all been able to keep your cats safe and comfortable.  They do seem to tolerate the heat better than us or perhaps they are just more sensible.

With the changing season however new problems will occur which we need to be mindful of:

November the 5th can be exciting and fun for us but please remember that for cats it can be terrifying. For advice please look at the following website – Dogs Trust – Sound therapy for pets

Finally, Christmas can be another stressful time for our cats and again advice about this can be found at: Feline Friends – Your Cats Christmas
